Volkswagen just unveiled the Obi-Wan Kenobi edition of ID.Buzz at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California. The car was on display during the premiere of the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi. This year’s Star Wars Celebration runs from May 26 to 29.
There were two ID.Buzz presented at the event which were named ID. Buzz “Light Side Edition” and ID. Buzz “Dark Side Edition”. Both cars appear with exterior designs that represent the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.
To realize the two cars, designers from Lucasfilm and Volkswagen worked together on the project.
ID.Buzz “Light Side Edition” takes the color from the tunic type outfit worn by Obi-Wan Kenobi. The blue line on the vehicle resembles a lightsaber. While the chrome top refers to the spaceships in the Star Wars universe.
The glossy matte black on the ID.Buzz “Dark Side Edition” is inspired by Darth Vader’s outfit with red stripes all over the vehicle mimicking the color of his lightsaber. The ID.Buzz “Dark Side Edition” design is emphasized by the red underbody lighting.
According to Volkswagen’s design boss, Jozef Kaba, this collaboration is about “putting two icons together.”
Just as the Star Wars series connects generations of fans from around the world, VW expects ID. Buzz can do something similar.
