Despite the semiconductor supply chain disruption, Volkswagen Group electric vehicle sales saw a 65 percent increase in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter last year.
In total the Volkswagen Group sold 99,100 EVs globally in the first quarter of this year. ID.4 contributed the most sales of electric vehicles with a total of 30,300 units. This means that ID.4 accounts for 30.5 percent of electricity sales for all major automaker brands.
VW ID.3, sold a total of 13,000 electric vehicles in the first quarter followed by ; Audi Q4 e-tron 10,700 units; Audi e-tron with 10,300 units; and the Porsche Taycan with a total of 9,500 units.
In terms of distribution of electric vehicle sales by brand. Volkswagen accounted for 53,400 EVs worldwide in Q1, 2022. This is followed by Audi (24,200), Porsche (9,500), Skoda (8,800) and SEAT/CUPRA (2,200).
In the European market, Volkswagen Group sold a total of 58,400 EVs in the first quarter of 2022. Compared to the same quarter last year, that number increased by 33.5 percent. The Chinese market accounted for 28,800 units of electric vehicle sales in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 360.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021.
Meanwhile for the American market, Volkswagen Group only managed to sell 7,900 electric vehicles in the first quarter of 2022. Although the number is not too large compared to the European and Chinese markets, this number is an increase of 16.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021.
