Volkswagen has confirmed the return of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz to its North American lineup for the 2027 model year after a one-year hiatus, while also reaffirming plans to continue offering the Volkswagen ID.4 in the region despite weak recent sales.
The ID. Buzz will return for model year 2027 in four trim levels: Pro S RWD, Pro S 4Motion, Tourer 4Motion and Pro S Plus 4Motion.
Volkswagen said the updated lineup also introduces revised colour combinations and wheel designs.
A new ID. Buzz Tourer variant has been developed specifically for North America based on the European “Good Night Package.”
According to the company, the Tourer is designed for overnight camping and includes a fold-out mattress with platform, window blinds, ventilation panels for the front windows, an exterior table and chairs, and an Overnight Mode software package intended to support overnight stays inside the vehicle.
The Tourer version is based on the Pro S 4Motion trim and additionally features a retractable tow hitch, Captain’s Chairs, an electrochromic panoramic roof, Area View camera functionality and 20-inch dark graphite wheels.
Volkswagen will also offer an optional 21-inch wheel package for the top trim level.
The automaker said all model year 2027 ID. Buzz variants will feature two-tone exterior paint schemes only, including a new Candy White and Cherry Red combination inspired by the classic Type 2 Microbus.
The electric van will also include a North American Charging System adapter and one-pedal driving capability as standard equipment.
All variants will run Volkswagen’s latest ID.S 6 infotainment software platform.
New connected vehicle features include myQ Connected Garage integration, AirConsole gaming support and What3Words navigation compatibility.
Volkswagen said the vehicles will also include a one-year trial subscription for its in-vehicle premium services package, which includes real-time navigation, ChatGPT-supported voice functions, internet radio and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
The company expects selected model year 2027 ID. Buzz variants to begin arriving at US dealerships from August 2026, with additional launches continuing into early 2027.
Volkswagen also confirmed that the ID.4 will remain available in the United States through existing model year 2026 inventory.
The company added that “a future version of the ID.4 is currently planned for the North American market and details will be shared at a later date.”
The announcement follows Volkswagen’s earlier decision to phase out ID.4 production at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in order to focus on the next-generation Atlas combustion-engine SUV.
The automaker’s move came after US electric vehicle demand weakened following the expiration of federal EV tax incentives, which contributed to lower sales of the ID.4.
