Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) has expanded its latest-generation Transporter line-up, adding three new body variants designed to meet a wider range of commercial requirements. The move builds on the existing panel van and Kombi models and brings additional choice for businesses seeking diesel, electric or plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The new additions are the Transporter dropside with a double cab and large load platform, the panel van Plus for combined passenger and goods transport, and a panel van with an L-partition for carrying longer items. The company said the dropside model has proven a long-standing success in certain sectors. “This model is extremely successful, especially in the construction industry, including road construction, as well as in forestry and horticulture,” VWCV noted.
The dropside variant, offered exclusively with a long wheelbase, features a 2.17-metre-long and 1.95-metre-wide load bed, providing about 4.2 square metres of cargo space. Aluminium side walls that fold down are standard, and customers can opt for a chassis-only version to fit custom bodies. The electric dropside is fitted with a 64-kWh battery and available with output levels of 100 kW, 160 kW or 210 kW. Payload capacity reaches up to 785 kilograms, and towing capability is rated at 2,000 kilograms. Prices for the electric model start at €52,208 net (€62,127.52 gross).
The panel van Plus has a single front row with up to two passenger seats and a three-seat bench directly behind, offering seating for five or six occupants. A plastic partition with a window separates the cabin from the load area, enabling a blend of goods and passenger transport. Standard equipment includes a passenger-side sliding door, with an optional second sliding door on the driver’s side. The electric version starts at €51,585 net (€61,386.15 gross) and comes with a short 3.10-metre wheelbase as standard, with a longer 3.50-metre option available. Depending on configuration, range is between 279 and 353 kilometres.
Based on the panel van Plus, the L-partition model replaces the second-row bench with two individual seats, allowing cargo space on the driver’s side to extend to the front for longer loads. It uses a metal partition and can seat four or five people. Dual sliding doors come as standard, with a passenger-side window included. Pricing starts at €52,740 net (€62,760.60 gross), with the same battery, wheelbase and output choices as the panel van Plus.
With these updates, the Transporter panel van family now includes standard and high-roof versions, the panel van Plus, and the L-partition model, alongside the dropside with double cab, the e-Transporter Kombi in two trims, and the e-Caravelle aimed at private buyers. VWCV’s latest Transporter generation is the result of a development partnership with Ford Pro, sharing its platform with the Ford e-Transit Custom and produced in Kocaeli, Turkey. Deliveries of the first e-Transporter units began in February.
