Volkswagen Anhui, the majority-owned Chinese joint venture of Volkswagen, has filed for approval of the ID.UNYX 08 SUV with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), signaling the upcoming debut of the first model jointly developed with Xpeng, according to data published by the ministry.

The ID.UNYX 08 appears in MIIT’s latest catalog of vehicles awaiting sales approval, a final step before market launch in China. Public comments on the listing will be accepted from November 11 to 17, indicating that the SUV is nearing commercial release.

The ID.UNYX 08 measures 5,000 mm in length, 1,954 mm in width, and 1,688 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm—larger in all dimensions than the Xpeng G9. It has a curb weight ranging from 2,191 to 2,360 kilograms and a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour. The MIIT filing lists three configurations: two single-motor variants (model codes VWA65012BEV1 and VWA65012BEV2) and one dual-motor version (VWA65013BEV1).

The rear-mounted single motor delivers 230 kW (308 horsepower), while the dual-motor model adds a 140 kW front motor. The vehicle uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL, though capacity details have not yet been disclosed.

According to the ID.UNYX brand’s WeChat account, the SUV supports 800-volt fast charging and offers a CLTC-rated range of up to 700 kilometers. It also features L2++ advanced driver assistance and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Volkswagen Anhui, founded in 2017 as a partnership between Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), is the automaker’s first joint venture in China dedicated solely to new energy vehicles (NEVs). The company previously introduced the ID.UNYX compact coupe SUV in July 2024, followed by the ID.UNYX 06 facelift in April and the ID.UNYX 07 electric sedan filing last month.
