German engineering group Voith said it will spin off its commercial vehicle division from the Voith Turbo unit into a new independent company, Driventic, which will specialize in both alternative and conventional drive technologies. The new firm, employing about 1,400 people across 27 locations in 19 countries, will begin operations on November 1.
Voith said the move is designed to give the unit greater flexibility in responding to market developments and expanding its e-mobility business. Driventic, headquartered in Heidenheim, will pursue a dual strategy of growing its electric drive systems while maintaining conventional powertrain solutions for trucks, buses, and off-highway vehicles.

“Busworld Europe is our most important trade fair for the commercial vehicle industry. We are therefore particularly pleased to be able to present Driventic there for the first time under its new brand name and to give customers, partners and suppliers a first impression of our future identity,” said Dr Gregor Wiche, CEO Commercial Vehicles and soon-to-be CEO of Driventic.
At the Busworld exhibition in Brussels, which begins this weekend, the company will showcase products still under Voith Turbo’s commercial vehicles division, including its VEDS and VEDS 1.5 electric drive systems. The latter, launched in July 2025, builds on a system already in use on the market for five years. Other technologies in the portfolio include DIWA and DIWA NXT automatic transmissions, retarders, air compressors, TurboCompound transmission solutions, and Hydrodamp vibration dampers.

Voith said Driventic will continue to offer integrated complete systems alongside digital services to meet customer needs in both electrified and conventional segments. “Above all, we will drive forward the further development of electric drive systems,” Wiche said, adding that conventional solutions would remain part of the portfolio to provide “future-proof products in both technology areas.”
