Vitesco Technologies, a leading supplier in the automotive industry, has unveiled a groundbreaking product called the “high-voltage box,” designed to revolutionize the way electric vehicles (EVs) manage electricity.
This innovative unit combines several key components for charging, converting, and distributing electricity in EVs into a single, modular system. According to Vitesco, this integration results in a more cost-effective and space-efficient solution for EV manufacturers.
The high-voltage box integrates multiple functions, including an AC charger for mains charging up to 22 kW, a DC converter for the car’s 12-volt system, and power electronics for high-voltage energy distribution and DC charging up to 800 volts. By consolidating these components into one unit, car manufacturers can simplify their vehicle design process and reduce complexity.
“With our High Voltage Box, we integrate these core tasks of energy management into one efficient and compact unit. This integration makes electrification on a large scale and at low cost easier,” said Thomas Stierle, Member of the Board and Head of the Electrification Solutions Division at Vitesco Technologies.

In addition to streamlining design and reducing complexity, the high-voltage box also offers improved efficiency and electrical safety. Vitesco utilizes silicon carbide semiconductors in the box, achieving an efficiency of over 95 percent. This technology ensures that the system meets all relevant European and global grid topologies.
One of the key features of the high-voltage box is its support for bidirectional charging, allowing it to supply alternating current up to 230 volts to connected consumers or the power grid if required. This capability aligns with the industry’s shift towards bidirectional charging standards.
While Vitesco has not disclosed the identity of its customers, speculation suggests that Renault may be one of the first to adopt this technology. Renault recently announced a new onboard charger for its Renault 5, capable of bidirectional charging, which could indicate a partnership with Vitesco.
Vitesco’s high-voltage box represents a significant advancement in EV technology, offering a cost-effective, space-efficient, and versatile solution for managing electricity in electric vehicles.
