The VinFast VF 8 City Edition, an electric vehicle (EV) from Vietnamese automaker VinFast, has been criticized for its poor range and high price point. However, the company has recently announced improvements to the vehicle’s range and reduced its pricing.

The VF 8 Eco City Edition now boasts an EPA estimated range of 207 miles (333 km) on a single charge, an improvement of 28 miles (45 km) from its original range. Additionally, the price of the VF 8 Eco City Edition has been dropped from $55,500 to $49,000, and the VF 8 Plus City Edition now starts at $56,000 instead of $62,500.

While the improved range and reduced pricing may make the VF 8 City Edition more attractive to consumers, the vehicle still falls short when compared to its competitors. For example, Tesla’s Model Y Dual-Motor Long Range, which has a range of 330 miles (531 km), is currently priced at $53,490 before a $1,390 destination fee. Additionally, the VF 8 City Edition is much slower than the Model Y, with a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of approximately 6.5 seconds.

Furthermore, the VF 8 Plus City Edition, which has a 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS) dual-motor all-wheel drive system, is priced at $54,200, which is only $680 cheaper than the Tesla Model Y. Given the similar pricing, consumers may opt for the Model Y, which offers a longer range and faster performance.

Overall, while VinFast has made improvements to the VF 8 City Edition, the vehicle still falls short when compared to its competitors in terms of range and performance. As such, it may be a questionable value for consumers.
