Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has set its sights on the competitive U.S. pickup market with the unveiling of the VF Wild, a mid-sized electric pickup concept, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. While the VF Wild is currently a concept, VinFast executives have signaled their intent to move it into production.

VinFast’s Deputy Chief Executive for Sales and Marketing, Tran Mai Hoa, emphasized the significance of the VF Wild, stating, “This is not just a new product in our offering — it showcases our aspiration to venture into the fast-paced and thriving electric pickup truck market.”

The VF Wild, slightly shorter than mid-sized competitors like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger, features four doors, two rows of seats, and a five-foot cargo bed. Notably, the back wall of the passenger compartment can fold down, extending the cargo bed and accommodating items up to eight feet in length—a feature reminiscent of the Chevrolet Silverado EV.

Unlike larger electric pickups such as the Silverado EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Tesla Cybertruck, the VF Wild occupies a smaller niche in the market. VinFast also presented the VF 3, a subcompact electric SUV currently available in Vietnam and slated for the U.S. market. Despite its diminutive size, VinFast promises “ample” interior space for the VF 3.

However, the compact size of the VF 3 imposes limitations on its range, allowing it to cover approximately 125 miles on a single charge. VinFast did not disclose pricing details for the VF 3.

VinFast has encountered challenges in the U.S. market, with its initial offering, the VF 8 luxury vehicle, receiving critical reviews. In response, VinFast acknowledged the feedback and implemented improvements to address concerns raised by automotive journalists. Established in 2017 as part of Vietnam’s Vingroup conglomerate, VinFast swiftly transitioned its focus to electric vehicles, marking its determined entry into the global automotive arena.
