VinFast recall 730 units of VF e34 electric car due to airbag sensor problem

VinFast said it would recall 739 units of the VF e34 electric vehicle that had been sent to consumers in the domestic market. The recall was carried out to check and replace the airbag sensor (crash sensor) or side collision sensor.

VinFast, which started operations in 2019, is a unit of Vietnam’s largest automaker Vingroup and has sold 2,208 electric vehicles since its launch late last year.

ā€œThe side collision sensor of the airbag system on the VF e34 model may have experienced an incompatibility error with the airbag controller. Therefore it cannot send the wrong signal to the controller,” VinFast said.

The company said it has not recorded any damage or complaints from customers about sensor faults.

VinFast, which stopped production of gasoline-powered cars in August, is set to expand in the US market. They hope to compete with legacy automakers and deliver 5,000 all-electric sports vehicles by November.

The company has registered nearly 65,000 bookings globally. VinFast expects to sell 750,000 electric vehicles per year by 2026, starting with the VF8 and VF9 all-electric SUVs.

In March, VinFast said it would build a production plant in North Carolina with a projected initial capacity of 150,000 electric vehicles per year.
