Ubitricity, a subsidiary of Shell, has announced plans to acquire the SureCharge public charging network from FM Conway, adding approximately 2,400 electric vehicle charge points across London.

The charging points are integrated into residential street lampposts and deliver charging speeds of around 4.8 kW, targeting overnight and curbside charging for urban residents without off-street parking. The transition began in early February 2026, with all units expected to be rebranded under the Shell Recharge network within two months.

Following the acquisition, Ubitricity said its network will exceed 14,000 charge points across 30 local authorities in the United Kingdom, reinforcing its position as the country’s largest public charging operator.

“This growth to the Shell Recharge network supports our ambition to expand reliable and affordable public charging across the UK. This acquisition helps accelerate progress towards more sustainable mobility for drivers and communities,” said Alexander Reinhardt, CEO of Ubitricity.

Rebecca Hatch, Digital Urban Solutions Director at FM Conway, said the companies would continue working together to build on the success of the SureCharge program introduced to London boroughs five years ago.

Ubitricity has expanded rapidly in recent years. The company surpassed 10,000 charging points in 2023 and reported further deployments during the past year, including around 2,000 units in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, more than 500 in Waltham Forest and 560 across Birmingham.
