Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber Technologies Inc, has resigned from the board of autonomous vehicle technology company Aurora Innovation, citing a need to concentrate on his ongoing responsibilities at Uber. The resignation, effective as of Tuesday, was confirmed by a regulatory filing on Friday.

Aurora stated that Khosrowshahi’s departure was not prompted by any disagreements with the company. Khosrowshahi, who had been on Aurora’s board since 2020, joined as part of a deal when Uber sold its self-driving unit, Uber ATG, to Aurora. Uber invested $400 million into Aurora at that time, acquiring a 26% stake in the combined company.

The departure comes after Uber and Aurora extended their collaboration in June with a multi-year agreement to integrate Aurora-powered trucks into Uber Freight, the company’s logistics platform.

Despite this partnership, Uber has also engaged with other autonomous driving companies, such as Waabi, a self-driving truck startup founded by Raquel Urtasun, former head of R&D at Uber ATG.

Shailen Bhatt, senior vice president and COO of AtkinsRéalis, will replace Khosrowshahi on Aurora’s board. Bhatt brings experience from his work at the Federal Highway Administration.

Khosrowshahi’s resignation follows the announcement earlier this month that Aurora’s general counsel, Nolan Shenai, will also step down in January 2025. Ossa Fisher, Aurora’s president, will assume Shenai’s duties in the interim.
