Toyota has introduced the Tacoma H2-Overlander Concept at the 2025 SEMA Show, presenting a hydrogen fuel cell and battery-electric hybrid truck designed for zero-emission overlanding. The concept, developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD-USA), produces 547 horsepower while offering off-grid energy generation and advanced sustainability features.

Built on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, the Tacoma H2-Overlander integrates a Mirai-derived hydrogen fuel cell stack with a 24.9-kWh lithium-ion battery and three hydrogen tanks, combining to deliver efficient, all-electric propulsion.

Dual motors generate a combined 547 hp and deliver power to all four wheels through front and rear differentials. A specialized TRD cooling system, adapted from the Tacoma TRD Pro and Lexus RZ, ensures consistent performance under demanding off-road conditions.

The vehicle’s 15-kW power output supports external energy use, allowing it to charge two electric vehicles or supply household-level electricity through dual NEMA 14-50 outlets. A patent-pending water recovery system filters water vapor from the fuel cell exhaust into distilled water suitable for outdoor use, reflecting Toyota’s focus on self-sufficiency and sustainable exploration.

TRD’s engineering team equipped the concept with billet long-travel suspension, Fox 2.5 Performance Elite shocks, and 35-inch off-road tires for improved terrain control. The exterior incorporates recycled carbon-fiber aero panels, a custom camper module, and functional overlanding accessories including bumpers, recovery gear, and integrated storage.

Unveiled under Toyota’s “Powered by Possibility” theme, the Tacoma H2-Overlander illustrates the brand’s multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality. “The H2-Overlander proves that clean energy and real-world capability can go hand in hand,” said Mike Tripp, Vice President of Toyota Marketing Group.
