Now, they have set their sights on the ultra-lightweight e-MTB sector with their upcoming innovation, Project 4.
Developing a new model entails significant investment and time commitment for manufacturers. To overcome these challenges and bring their visionary concepts to life, companies often resort to innovative approaches. Thok’s solution for their latest creation, the P4, involved harnessing the power of 3D printing technology, but not just any 3D printing technology.
Understanding the rigorous demands of prototype testing, Thok sought the expertise of Materialise, a renowned Belgian company specializing in 3D printing aerospace and automotive components. Materialise’s experience ensured that the 3D-printed components for the P4 could withstand formidable forces. Their cutting-edge technology, known as Selective Laser Melting (SLM), employs lasers to melt metal powder, resulting in robust and durable parts.
While the P4 prototype differs from the envisioned full-carbon fiber frame of the final production version, its creation marks a crucial milestone for Thok. The working prototype allows Thok to conduct essential tests on vital parameters such as suspension, frame geometry, handling, and motor integration. Speaking of the motor, Thok has chosen the Bosch Performance Line SX for the P4, known for its exceptional performance and remarkable lightweight design. Bosch’s innovative e-bike system leverages a magnesium casing to reduce weight while retaining the excellent features of the popular Performance Line CX.
When it comes to the battery, Thok aims to offer a wide range of options for the production version of the P4. Riders will have the flexibility to choose from battery packs with capacities of 400, 500, 625, and 750 watt-hours. Additionally, reports suggest that all P4 models will be compatible with Bosch’s Powermore 250-watt-hour range extender, providing riders with extended range capabilities.
