Chinese automaker BYD has filed the Sealion 06 SUV for regulatory approval, marking the latest addition to its Sealion lineup, according to a filing released by Chinaâs Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The Sealion 06 appears in MIIT’s latest public catalog of vehicles eligible for sale in China, which is open for comment between April 17 and 23. Inclusion in the catalog is the final regulatory step before new models can enter the market.

The Sealion 06 will be offered in six versions, including three battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and three plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants. The BEV models are manufactured at BYD’s facilities in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, and Changzhou, Jiangsu province, while all PHEV versions are produced in Xi’an.
The SUV measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mmâmaking it larger than the Sealion 05 EV SUV. Curb weight ranges from 1,890 kg to 2,190 kg. Top speeds are 185 km/h for the BEV variants and 180 km/h for the PHEV versions.

The BEV variants offer both single- and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor version comes with either 170 kW or 180 kW peak power, while the dual-motor option includes a 110 kW front motor and a 180 kW rear motor. The PHEV variants are equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 74 kW, paired with a single electric motor generating up to 160 kW.
The Sealion 06 joins an expanding Sealion family that includes the all-electric Sealion 07 EV, launched in May 2024 as the first model based on BYDâs e-Platform 3.0 Evo, and the Sealion 05 DM-i, which debuted in September 2024 featuring the companyâs DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid system.
