Ora Good Cat dominates sales of electric cars (Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) in Thailand for the first half of 2022 overtaking other well-known brands such as the BMW IX3 to Tesla Model 3.

The electric car with a Porsche-like design recorded sales for the first half of 2022 reaching 1,355 units or about 43.8 percent of the country’s total electric car market. Quoted from wapcar which refers to Autolife Thailand data, sales of Ora Good Cat began to accelerate in February 2022 with 143 units selling at that time.

The positive trend in sales continues to progress on a monthly basis. In fact, Good Cat sales had touched 453 units in June 2022. The domestic record was made amid sluggish buying and selling of electric vehicles following the Russia-Ukraine war crisis.

The second position in the Thai electric vehicle market is the Volvo XC40 Recharge EV with sales of 467 units or more than the MG EP recording in third with sales of 444 units. In fact, the MG ZS EV, Thailand’s best-selling electric car last year, had to drop to 9th place with sales of 71 units.

Thus, MG lost a large market share in Thailand following Ora’s parent company, Great Wall Motor (GWM), which later became the best-selling electric car brand in Thailand.

During January-June 2022, 3,097 electric cars have been registered in Thailand. The registration is too small, only about 0.66 percent of the total number of cars recorded at 470.0386. However, the overall number of electric cars registered in 2022 is relatively larger than 2020 and 2021 combined.
