The Mobility House and Itron have partnered on a new project in New York State that aims to accelerate the electrification of vehicle fleets through advanced smart charging technology.

Supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the initiative will use intelligent load management to help utilities accommodate more EV chargers without costly grid upgrades or prolonged infrastructure delays.

The collaboration integrates Itron’s IntelliFLEX Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) with The Mobility House’s ChargePilot® charge management platform.

The combined system uses real-time grid data and automated load management to ensure charging stays within the distribution network’s capacity, reducing strain on the grid while meeting fleet operational demands.

By using flexible service connections, utilities can authorize EV charging installations more quickly, ensuring that energy consumption remains within approved limits during peak demand periods.

The demonstration will begin at a school bus facility in Staten Island, operated by New York City School Bus Umbrella Services (NYCSBUS) and served by Consolidated Edison (Con Ed). A second phase will add ten more chargers at another site in New York State.
