Tevex Logistics, a subsidiary of the German butcher Tönnies Group, plans to use the battery-electric eActros LongHaul truck for food deliveries in the future. To this end, the company has signed a letter of intent with Mercedes-Benz Trucks to order 50 units of the vehicle.
The letter of intent was signed during an official visit to Daimler Truck headquarters. No further details on the planned use of the vehicles were provided in the announcement.
The Tönnies Group, known for its meat products, will use the vehicles in particularly demanding, temperature-controlled food transport. The company is committed to becoming one of the most sustainable food producers in Europe by 2030 as part of its ‘t30’ agenda which includes the reduction of CO2 emissions in logistics per tour. With the use of the first e-truck from Mercedes-Benz Trucks and further purchases and conversions, the logistics subsidiary has already achieved about a third of the targets according to Mercedes release.
The eActros LongHaul, with a range of around 500 kilometers and support for the MCS charging standard, is expected to go into series production in 2024. Previously, the Hegelmann Group and Dachser had also announced their intention to purchase 50 units each of the eActros LongHaul. The exact date of delivery for these pilot customers is yet to be determined.
