Earlier this month, Tesla enthusiasts noticed a curious sight at Giga Texas: the holding lots were brimming with Model Y units sporting a sleek Quicksilver paint job, a color previously exclusive to Giga Berlin. These Quicksilver Model Ys have now made their way onto Tesla’s Inventory page, available for purchase.
A peek at Tesla’s Inventory page reveals several Quicksilver Model Ys up for grabs, currently offered in Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD) or Performance variants. Buyers can choose between the Model Y’s 19” Gemini Wheels or 20” Induction Wheels, with black and white interior options also on the table.
Presently, Tesla’s Inventory page lists nine Quicksilver Model Y units available for purchase. The most budget-friendly option is a Long Range Dual Motor AWD with black interior, priced at $49,990 or $42,490 after the federal tax credit—an enticing deal, especially in the US where Quicksilver remains a rarity.
Despite not being formally launched for the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y in the US, the presence of inventory Model Y units in the unique color suggests a forthcoming full rollout of the new paint option.
Interestingly, Giga Texas and Giga Shanghai are not the only factories producing Quicksilver Model Y units. Aerial footage of the Shanghai Southport Terminal indicates that the new option is also popular among countries importing vehicles from Gigafactory Shanghai, with a substantial fleet of Quicksilver Model Ys awaiting export.
Tesla’s introduction of Quicksilver for the Giga Berlin-made Model Y highlighted its highly-pigmented metallic paint, designed to shift in appearance depending on the viewing angle and light. The color’s formulation allows for up to 13 layers, providing depth, dimension, and a hand-painted appearance, thanks to Giga Berlin’s advanced paint system.
