Tesla sold 32,165 China-made electric vehicles in May 2022

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) reported that the US electric vehicle maker, Tesla, managed to sell 32,165 electric vehicles made in Shanghai, China, Reuters, Thursday, June 9, 2022. That figure includes 22,340 exported units.

The CPCA added that Tesla’s Shanghai factory produced 33,544 vehicles in May, up 212 percent from April.

Meanwhile, according to data submitted by the CPCA, sales of passenger cars in May in China reached 1.37 million, down 17.3 percent from the previous year. But this figure is up 30 percent compared to the previous month.

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, Thursday, June 9, 2022, China’s auto market is preparing for a recovery after the impact of Covid-19 began to decline and policy incentives took effect.

The Chinese government cut the purchase tax by 50 percent for passenger cars priced under 300,000 yuan (Rp 654 million) with engines under 2,000 cc purchased between June 1 and December 31 this year.

The tax that used to be 10 percent has now been cut to 5 percent.
