Tesla has introduced a change in its latest software update, 2024.32, that restricts the use of the 12-volt and 16-volt sockets unless someone is occupying the vehicle or the car is in Camp Mode. This adjustment could make things more difficult for users who rely on Tesla vehicles for camping trips, where these sockets are used to power devices like refrigerators.
The update disables the sockets when the vehicle is unoccupied, even if Sentry Mode is activated, a feature campers often rely on to protect their cars from animals. Previously, these sockets remained active under various conditions, providing continuous power for essential camping equipment. Now, without a person inside the vehicle or Camp Mode engaged, devices may lose power, raising concerns about potential food spoilage or disruption of other essential appliances.
Their concern is Sentry Mode used to keep USB ports and 12V powered, which is commonly used when leaving your vehicle after using Camp Mode.
This now makes it so fridges, or other appliances will power off and risk food spoilage. Not all benefits of Camp Mode are necessary if…

Several Tesla owners have voiced frustration with the change. One owner stated, “This update makes camping more difficult. I understand saving battery life, but it makes no sense when you’re out in the wild, needing to power a fridge.” Campers typically leave their vehicles for extended periods, and this adjustment may force them to keep the vehicle in Camp Mode to avoid interruptions.
The move appears to be aimed at conserving battery life, though many users have called on Tesla to reconsider, as it limits the utility of the sockets for those who use their vehicles for camping purposes.
@Tesla please re-consider this change or let us know why it had to change. https://t.co/OthKT9LiJs
