Tesla announced on Monday that its six-seat Model Y L will launch in China this fall, sharing a preview video on its official Weibo account. The company did not provide additional details on pricing or availability.
The Model Y L, which appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology regulatory filings last month, measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm.

The dual-motor SUV produces peak outputs of 142 kW and 198 kW for its front and rear motors, respectively, and is equipped with an 82.0-kWh ternary battery pack from South Korea’s LG Energy Solution, with a CLTC range of 751 kilometers. Local media have speculated the price could be around RMB 400,000 ($55,720).
The announcement comes as Tesla faces slowing sales of the Model Y in China, where retail deliveries from January to July totaled 202,257 units, down 17.15 percent year-on-year. The upcoming Model Y L is expected to compete directly with other six-seat electric SUVs, including Nio’s Onvo L90, launched in late July, and Li Auto’s i8, which begins deliveries on Aug. 20.

On July 16, Nio founder William Li said on Weibo that the era of pure electrification for large SUVs has arrived, while Li Xiang, founder of Li Auto, described the Model Y L as a “six-seat electric SUV worthy of respect.”
Tesla began producing the Model Y at its Shanghai factory in January 2021, and the five-seat version has maintained strong deliveries in most months. The arrival of the Model Y L is expected to intensify competition in China’s six-seat EV and broader SUV markets.
