In a highly anticipated move, Tesla has unveiled a substantial software update (version 2023.26) that brings a host of new features and enhancements to its fleet of electric vehicles. The update, which has been eagerly awaited by Tesla owners and enthusiasts, introduces several noteworthy additions, including solar charging capabilities, an upgraded Spotify interface, multiview camera functionality, and more.

One of the standout features in this update is the ability to charge Tesla vehicles using solar energy when equipped with a Powerwall. Owners now have the option to specify the proportion of solar energy they prefer to utilize during charging. This long-awaited feature has finally made its official debut after being previously identified in Tesla software earlier this year. To set it up, users can simply access the Tesla app, navigate to the vehicle settings, tap on the “Charge on Solar” message, and follow the provided instructions. It’s important to note that this feature requires a Powerwall v23.12.10 and Tesla app v4.22.5.

Another exciting improvement centers around Tesla’s integration with the popular music streaming platform, Spotify. With the latest update, Tesla users can enjoy a refreshed and more user-friendly Spotify interface. They can access their music, playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks with ease, thanks to the updated interface found within the App Launcher. This development is expected to be positively received by Tesla owners, as the previous Spotify integration was deemed minimalistic and lacking in features. However, it’s worth noting that this feature requires Premium Connectivity.

Tesla has also addressed some practical and safety-related concerns with this update. The vehicles now come equipped with automatic headlights that activate whenever the windshield wipers are in use, provided the headlights are set to the “Auto” mode within the Controls menu. Furthermore, the navigation system has been enhanced to notify drivers if their destination is nearing its closing hours or may be closed by the time of arrival. This added feature adds convenience and ensures drivers stay informed throughout their journeys.

Tesla is further expanding its gaming capabilities by introducing Bluetooth game controller support in Arcade mode. Users can now pair Bluetooth controllers, especially PS5 controllers, to play games directly on their Tesla’s infotainment system. This new addition simplifies the gaming experience for Tesla owners, as they can now connect controllers wirelessly instead of relying on a USB connection as before. The Owner’s Manual provides detailed instructions on how to pair the controllers and further information on compatibility.

To enhance safety and situational awareness, Tesla has introduced a new camera view feature within the Tesla mobile app. Users can now access multiple camera feeds simultaneously, providing a comprehensive view of their vehicle’s surroundings. This feature requires the Tesla Mobile App v4.22.5 and Premium Connectivity.

In addition to these major updates, Tesla has made several smaller refinements to improve the user experience. Notable changes include separating Recents and Favorites into separate tabs in the Media Player, offering more precise sliders for volume, temperature, and charge limit adjustments, and enhancing Sentry Mode to record any attempts to open doors or trunks while the vehicle is locked. The update also introduces a new Manual app, providing quick access to the Owner’s Manual and Release Notes, offering a wealth of information on various topics, from regenerative braking to phone keys and maximizing vehicle range. Automatic Navigation now provides more comprehensive details about the destination, while a Swiss French keyboard is now available for users.

It’s important to note that software updates can take time to propagate across Tesla’s entire vehicle fleet, and the specific updates can vary depending on regions and vehicle models. Tesla owners can expect to receive the update in due course, enjoying an array of exciting new features and improvements that further enhance the Tesla ownership experience.
