Tesla has begun rolling out an update enabling cabin radar in the latest Model Y, introducing a child presence detection system aimed at preventing heatstroke deaths.
The feature, which will also be available in other Tesla models, can alert owners via the mobile app, activate climate controls, and notify emergency services if a child is detected inside a locked vehicle.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an average of 37 children die annually in the U.S. due to heatstroke after being left in vehicles. Tesla’s new system seeks to reduce such incidents by leveraging in-car radar technology to identify occupants.
In addition to the refreshed Model Y, recent Model 3s, other Model Y variants, and the Cybertruck are set to receive the feature, provided they have the necessary hardware.
