Tesla has unveiled several exciting updates to the new Model Y “Juniper” through an exclusive interview conducted at a Northern California showroom. Tesla’s Vehicle Engineering Head for the 3/Y platform, Nathan Di Giusto, and Model Y Program Manager, Emmanuel Lamacchia, shared insights with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley on the design improvements and efficiency upgrades that make the Model Y even better than its previous iteration.

The Model Y has maintained its status as a top-selling vehicle, and Tesla is aiming to build on that success by introducing thoughtful refinements. Some of the most notable design changes include the removal of the ‘T’ logo from the vehicle’s exterior, as originally intended for the U.S. market. While the Chinese market required the logo, the U.S. version was designed to be logo-free.

In response to customer feedback, Tesla has reintroduced the turn signal stalk, replacing the previous button-based control, though the buttons remain available for those who prefer them. The vehicle will also feature new paint colors, which will soon be available in North America.

Tesla has focused heavily on efficiency, implementing a series of design elements to enhance both range and comfort. The braking system has been optimized to reduce drag from brake calipers, contributing to better energy efficiency. Additionally, the inclusion of carpeted cupholders, trunk lids, and side trim all contribute to a quieter cabin experience. The new Model Y also features a metallically coated, two-layer silver glass roof, improving both thermal performance and cabin noise reduction.

The company considered introducing a larger battery to increase the vehicle’s range but opted to maintain affordability for consumers. The improvements are expected to deliver more than a 2.8 percent range boost over the previous Model Y. Other changes include quieter door latches and trunk lids, improved interior materials for noise reduction, and advanced vehicle sensors capable of detecting humans, their heartbeats, and breathing patterns.

The Model Y “Juniper” is set for deliveries in March and will initially be available in the “Launch Edition” trim, starting at $59,990 before incentives.
