Tesla has informed vehicle owners that new models will no longer support Steam Gaming, a feature that was launched with the Model S and Model X in December 2022 as part of the annual Holiday Update.

Steam, a popular gaming platform known for its extensive library of games, was integrated into Tesla vehicles nearly two years ago, a move that CEO Elon Musk highlighted as a significant development in the Summer of 2022.

Despite its initial introduction, Tesla has now notified owners that their vehicles will lose Steam capability. In a communication prior to delivery, an owner of a new Model X was informed that gaming features would be limited:

Tesla has been implementing various cost-cutting measures, including significant layoffs, to preserve cash. While the exact reasons for removing Steam support are not clear, speculation among respondents on Reddit ranges from lack of regular use to concerns about battery drain and the gaming experience.

The integration of Steam was initially seen as a step toward enhancing entertainment options during travel, especially as Tesla has been promoting its robotaxis and the development of a complete Full Self-Driving suite. However, it appears that Steam gaming will not be included in future vehicle deliveries.
