Tesla offers free Supercharger credits for Model S and Model X to boost Q1 sales in the US and Canada

Tesla is once again offering free Supercharger credits to its customers in Canada and the United States, this time for buyers of the Model S and Model X, in an effort to boost sales in the final six days of the quarter. According to Drive Tesla, customers who take delivery of a new Model S or Model X before March 31 will receive 10,000 free Supercharging kilometers in Canada and 10,000 free Supercharging miles in the US. These credits are valid for two years from the delivery date and are not transferrable to a new owner.

This is not the first time Tesla has offered such incentives. In fact, this is the second quarter in a row that the automaker has offered free Supercharger credits to encourage customers to take delivery before the end of the quarter. In December last year, Tesla made a similar offer, but the credits applied to deliveries of the Model 3 and Model Y as well.

It seems Tesla is no stranger to end-of-quarter pushes, despite CEO Elon Musk’s expressed desire to “reduce the size of the wave in favor of a steadier and more efficient pace of deliveries” over a quarter. The company has also previously offered end-of-year discounts to encourage buyers to take delivery earlier than they may have planned, although those discounts were subsequently overshadowed by significant price cuts implemented by the automaker just a few weeks into the new year.

Despite these tactics, Tesla’s deliveries have been impressive. In Q1 2022 alone, the company delivered over 310,000 cars globally, setting a new delivery record for 2022 of 1.31 million cars. It remains to be seen whether the current Supercharger credit incentive will help boost sales in the final days of the quarter, but it is clear that Tesla is not resting on its laurels and is constantly looking for ways to improve its performance.

As Elon Musk once said, “We’re all about making electric cars accessible to everyone, not just making a luxury product.” The Supercharger credit offer is just one example of how Tesla is working towards this goal, and it is likely that we will see more innovative solutions from the company in the future.
