Tesla’s Model Y has once again taken the top spot as Europe’s best-selling car — across all categories — marking a major rebound for the electric automaker after several months of volatile sales performance.

According to new data from Dataforce, reported by Automotive News, the all-electric SUV led the European charts in September 2025 with 25,938 units sold, securing its first monthly win since January. Despite an 8.6% decline compared to the same month last year, the Model Y outpaced traditional internal combustion competitors such as the Renault Clio (20,146 units) and Dacia Sandero (19,200 units), which followed in second and third place respectively.

The Model Y’s sales journey throughout 2025 has been far from smooth. After finishing second in June, the model dropped to 60th in July before rebounding to 17th in August. Its September surge back to the top highlights Tesla’s operational resilience, supported by improved output from Giga Berlin and earlier strategic price adjustments across key European markets.

Tesla’s victory also underscores its continued dominance in the electric SUV category, where few rivals can match its mix of long range, advanced software, and strong brand appeal. Still, shifting government incentives and uneven consumer demand have added new layers of uncertainty to Europe’s EV landscape.

While the Dacia Sandero continues to lead on a year-to-date basis, Tesla’s strong September comeback signals renewed momentum. With Giga Berlin’s production ramping up and the company preparing for the European rollout of Full Self-Driving, Tesla could finish 2025 as a serious contender once again for Europe’s overall sales crown.
