Tesla said its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised driver-assistance system is now available in several markets including China, marking the company’s first official announcement of the technology’s rollout in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
Tesla disclosed the update on Thursday through a post on social media platform X.
The rollout comes about a week after U.S. President Donald Trump visited China accompanied by a delegation of American business executives that included Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk.
Earlier this week, Tesla China published multiple job openings related to autonomous driving development, including positions for autopilot test engineers and data labelers, fueling speculation that the company was preparing for a broader deployment of FSD technology in China.
According to Tesla’s announcement, FSD Supervised is also currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, South Korea and the Netherlands.
The deployment represents a significant step for Tesla as it seeks to strengthen its position in China’s increasingly competitive automotive market.
Tesla has faced growing pressure from Chinese technology and automotive companies including Xiaomi and Huawei, both of which have rapidly expanded advanced urban driving-assistance capabilities across their vehicle lineups.
Several Chinese automakers have increasingly offered sophisticated intelligent driving systems as standard equipment, intensifying competition in the premium EV segment.
For Tesla, broader deployment of FSD technology is also viewed as central to its long-term software and subscription revenue strategy.
The company has been positioning advanced driving software as a recurring revenue source while attempting to attract consumers seeking higher levels of vehicle automation.
To meet Chinese regulatory requirements, Tesla previously established a local data center in Shanghai and entered into a mapping cooperation agreement with Baidu.
Tesla’s FSD Supervised remains classified as a driver-assistance technology requiring active driver supervision rather than a fully autonomous driving system.
