Tesla has launched a more affordable version of its popular electric SUV in Germany, with the Model Y Standard now available to order for €39,990. Produced at the company’s Gigafactory in Grünheide, Brandenburg, the new entry-level variant aims to make Tesla’s mid-size SUV lineup more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
The Standard model is around €10,000 cheaper than the previous base model, now renamed “Premium Rear-Wheel Drive.” In France, Tesla lists the vehicle at a monthly leasing rate of €299. Production of the new variant appears to have already begun, with first deliveries scheduled for November.

Despite its lower price, the Model Y Standard maintains strong performance and efficiency. According to Tesla, the version consumes just 13.1 kWh per 100 km, making it the most economical powertrain in its class. It offers a WLTP range of 534 kilometres, which the company says is “perfectly suitable for everyday use and long-distance driving.” For comparison, the Premium version reaches up to 622 kilometres per charge.
“With the Model Y Standard, we’re continuing to make electric mobility more accessible while maintaining Tesla’s commitment to efficiency and performance,” a Tesla spokesperson said. The model, however, requires buyers to accept a few compromises in features and performance compared with higher-spec variants.

The introduction of the Standard version is part of Tesla’s broader strategy to broaden the appeal of its Model 3 and Model Y lineups. While CEO Elon Musk previously hinted at developing a $25,000 compact EV, those plans were halted last year.
Even with a lower entry price, the Model Y Standard remains positioned in the mid-range SUV segment rather than as a budget offering. Still, its balance of affordability, range, and efficiency could make it one of Tesla’s most competitive models in Europe’s EV market.
