The Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García Sepúlveda, announced that the groundbreaking for Tesla Gigafactory Mexico is expected to take place in March, during his visit to a community center in Monterrey, as reported by Milenio.
Originally scheduled for this month, the groundbreaking was postponed due to various issues raised by departments managing the permit process for Giga Mexico’s construction.

Governor García Sepúlveda’s statement, however, does not confirm the exact date for the groundbreaking, as he mentioned that some permit-issuing departments have requested an extension. He stated, “Today I spoke with… I’m going to say, with the management in Mexico. There is already the electrical issue, there is the water issue, there is the environment, they had requested an extension of the environmental permit because it seems that the plant is going to be bigger than they thought.”
Despite these challenges, construction has already begun on the roads and other infrastructure surrounding the Giga Mexico site, referred to as the Tesla District. The government of Nuevo León is currently expanding the Monterrey-Saltillio Highway in anticipation of increased nearshoring activity.

There are concerns about the impact of Tesla Giga Mexico on the region, particularly regarding nearshoring and its potential effects on small companies in Nuevo León.
Governor García Sepúlveda’s comments suggest that some management departments in Mexico have raised issues such as electrical and water problems, as well as concerns about Tesla’s environmental impact. These concerns echo those raised by locals near Tesla Giga Berlin in Grüheide.
