Tesla has significantly expanded the availability of its Robotaxi mobile application, allowing users in multiple countries outside of North America to download the platform. This move signals the company’s long-term international vision for its autonomous ride-hailing service, though actual operations remain limited to select U.S. cities.
The Robotaxi app is now available for download in a total of 12 markets, including:
- Asia-Pacific: Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Macau, and New Zealand.
- North and Latin America: Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.
The expansion comes as the company continues to scale its early-stage ride-hailing platform within the United States, where the service is currently active in geofenced areas of Texas, California, and Arizona.
Tesla is focusing on rapid domestic expansion, recently stating plans to launch Robotaxi services in additional major U.S. metro areas, including Miami, Houston, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Dallas. The service has logged over 550,000 total miles, with the majority accumulated in the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin.
The global rollout of the app is primarily dependent on regulatory approval in various regions, which is often cited as the biggest hurdle for autonomous vehicle operations outside of the U.S.
In parallel with expansion efforts, Tesla is working on technological advancements aimed at achieving fully unsupervised operations. One key goal is the elimination of safety monitors—currently utilized in the front passenger seat in Austin and the driver’s seat in the Bay Area. The company recently implemented a new in-cabin data-sharing system designed to allow support teams to assist riders remotely.
