Tesla’s Lead Engineer for the Cybertruck, Wes Morrill, has shared a brief first look at the upcoming off-road armor for the all-electric pickup truck.
In a recent post on X, Morrill revealed that the off-road armor was displayed at Johnson Valley during the King of the Hammers event. The area is also where Tesla’s team spent significant time testing and refining the Cybertruck’s accessories. Morrill highlighted that the new armor is “low profile, tough, and best of all, coming soon.”

The off-road armor, which is expected to be released shortly, is one of several accessories designed to enhance the Cybertruckâs rugged capabilities. Tesla Vehicle Program Manager Siddhant Awasthi previously indicated that off-road accessories, including armor and rockers, would likely launch around the end of March. While Tesla continues to focus on delivering other parts, such as wheel covers, the off-road armor’s imminent release is a much-anticipated upgrade.

The Cybertruck has already made an impression with its robust design, though its initial release lacked a dedicated off-road mode. This led to viral videos showing the truck struggling on less challenging terrains, drawing ridicule from critics.
However, the addition of the off-road mode significantly improved its performance, transforming the Cybertruck into a more capable off-roader. With the new armor and accessories, the vehicle is expected to further excel in demanding conditions, bolstering its reputation as a tough and versatile electric vehicle.
