New York-based boutique electric motorcycle maker Tarform has surprised the industry with the release of its latest creation, the Tarform Raye personal watercraft. Departing from the brand’s usual two-wheeled designs, the Raye is a sleek, hull-style craft with an aesthetic inspired by the manta ray.
Though the Raye is still in the rendering phase, Tarform claims it will reach speeds of up to 50 mph (43 knots or 80 km/h). The company has a reputation for bringing striking designs to market, with the release of the Tarform Luna electric motorcycle in 2019 being a prime example.
The Luna’s unique and bespoke design approach is reflected in the Tarform Raye, setting it apart from other electric watercraft currently available. While exact technical specifications for the Raye remain scarce, Tarform has confirmed it will offer two models, with either a 70 hp (52 kW) or 120 hp (89 kW) electric motor powering waterjet propulsion.
The craft will also be available with a choice of two battery options, offering run times of up to two hours. The Raye is set to incorporate technology from the Luna, including over-the-air updates, machine learning, and sensor technology.
However, it comes with a hefty price tag, with an estimated sale price of US $68,000. Despite the high cost, personal electric watercraft are a niche market that is experiencing steady growth within the larger electric watercraft industry.
Though Tarform’s latest project is still in the early stages, the brand’s track record suggests that the Raye may well come to fruition. Its unique design and bespoke approach to electric vehicles make it an exciting prospect for electric watercraft enthusiasts looking for a premium, high-performance option.
