The Škoda Group has been awarded a contract to supply up to 70 trolleybuses for Tallinn’s public transport system, as part of a modernization plan for the Estonian capital’s network. The agreement includes the delivery of 22 articulated type 33Tr trolleybuses and 18 standard type 32Tr trolleybuses starting in 2026, with an option for an additional 30 vehicles.

The city’s initiative includes substantial upgrades to the trolleybus infrastructure, incorporating systems that will allow operations in some areas without overhead lines. Mayor Jevgeni Ossinovski stated that the city plans to invest over €100 million in the coming years to enhance public transportation. “The acquisition of new trolleybuses is part of a broader vision focused on prioritizing public transport,” he said.

Škoda Group welcomed the agreement, citing its longstanding presence in Tallinn’s transport history. “We are pleased to have secured a new contract in Tallinn. Our trolleybuses have demonstrated reliability and sustainability across many European cities,” said Karel Majer, Chairman of the Board of Škoda Electric.

Kaido Padar, a board member of Aktsiaselts Tallinna Linnatransport, the city’s transport operator, emphasized the importance of the project. “We are now pleased to confirm that trolleybuses are returning in a significant way. In addition to new vehicles, the entire trolleybus infrastructure will also be modernized,” Padar said.

This initiative builds on Tallinn’s ongoing efforts to expand electrified public transport. The city has previously placed large orders for electric buses, including a 700-bus order in 2019 and another order in 2023. Preparations for the modernization, including upgrades to the existing network, have already commenced.
