Switch Mobility, an Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently delivered the first batch of electric double-decker buses to Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) in Mumbai. This marks the first step in fulfilling BEST’s order of 200 electric double-decker buses from Switch Mobility.

The Switch EiV 22 is the first air-conditioned electric double-decker bus entirely designed, developed, and manufactured in India. The company claims that the bus is equipped with the latest technology, a modern design, maximum safety, and best-in-class comfort features. The EiV 22 is primarily intended for intra-urban travel and can travel up to 250 km on a single charge.

The EiV 22 electric bus is equipped with a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor, with a peak power of 235 kW (140 kW continuous) and a maximum torque of 3100 Nm. It has a seating capacity of 65, plus the driver’s seat, and can be recharged from 1.5 hours to 3 hours. The bus is powered by a 231 kWh, liquid-cooled, high-density NMC chemistry battery pack with a dual-gun charging system.

Switch Mobility’s delivery of the first batch of electric double-decker buses to BEST is a significant milestone for the Indian electric vehicle industry. The introduction of these buses is expected to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in Mumbai, one of the world’s most populous cities.
