A new survey conducted by the Global EV Alliance reveals that the majority of electric vehicle (EV) drivers are committed to staying electric, with over 90% planning to buy another EV once they trade in their gas-powered cars. According to the study, only 1% of respondents expressed interest in returning to a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

The study, which surveyed over 23,000 EV drivers across 18 countries, including the United States, Canada, France, India, and Brazil, highlights the growing preference for electric vehicles. The results show that 92% of respondents are inclined to purchase another EV, while 4% are considering a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The key reasons for EV drivers’ loyalty to electric cars are largely financial and environmental. Lower operating costs were cited by 45% of respondents as the most significant factor for their decision to stick with EVs. Additionally, 40% said they preferred EVs because they are more climate-friendly, while 32% highlighted their benefits for the local environment. Other important reasons included better driveability (21%) and lower maintenance costs (18%).

The findings reflect the positive driving experience many EV owners enjoy, particularly the quiet, smooth ride that is often absent in traditional gasoline-powered cars. Combined with the nearly non-existent operating and maintenance costs, the appeal of EVs continues to grow. With automakers like Tesla offering deals such as free three-month Supercharging, driving an EV can be nearly cost-free in terms of energy, further solidifying the case for electric cars.

In addition to the savings, the influx of affordable EV models and government incentives, such as the $7,500 US federal tax credit, are making electric cars increasingly accessible, leveling the playing field with their gasoline counterparts.
