Stromer Unveils the ST2 Pinion: A High-Speed Electric Bike for the European Market

Swiss e-bike manufacturer Stromer has unveiled their latest offering, the ST2 Pinion. This cutting-edge electric bicycle is designed to be the successor to the ST2 Belt, and boasts a range of impressive features that make it stand out from the crowd.

One of the most striking features of the ST2 Pinion is its use of a Pinion gearbox. This internally housed gearbox sits inside the bottom bracket, and works in a similar fashion to the gearbox found in automobiles. The result is a much smoother pedal feel, and the ability to shift gears regardless of whether you’re in motion or stationary. This is particularly useful for riding in stop-and-go traffic.

Another notable feature of the ST2 Pinion is its classification as a Speed Pedelec, or S-Pedelec for short. This means that it requires registration, insurance, and a regular driver’s license to operate. S-Pedelecs are a step up from standard electric bicycles, with a top speed of 45 kilometers per hour (28 miles per hour). This also means that they must share the road with regular traffic, and are not allowed on cycle paths.

The ST2 Pinion is powered by a rear-hub motor with an output of 750 watts – triple that of standard electric bicycles. This setup allows for a top speed of 28 miles per hour, and the battery pack has a claimed range of 120 kilometers (75 miles) on a single charge. There’s even an optional range extender that provides an additional 60 kilometers (38 miles) of range.

In addition to the Pinion gearbox and powerful motor, the ST2 Pinion features a belt drive from Gates. This ensures low maintenance and quiet operation, making it a practical and convenient option for commuters and city dwellers.

The Launch Edition of the ST2 Pinion comes in an Electric Green color scheme and will hit the market in April 2023. Other color options, including Dark Gray and Moon Ray, will be available from June 2023. Pricing has not yet been announced.
