Belgian racer Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) successfully won the Formula E world title this season after finishing second at E-Prox Seoul, South Korea, August 13-14 2022.

The former McLaren F1 driver has a total of 213 points, 33 points ahead of Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) in second place who collected 180 points. Edoardo Mortara (Rokit Venturi Racing) is in third place in the final standings with 169 points.

Mercedes-EQ, which was also strengthened by the Dutch racer, Nyck de Fries, also emerged as the constructors’ champion with a total of 319 points. Behind him are Rokit Venturi Racing (295 points) and DS Techeetah (266 points).

The Seoul E-Prix is the last era of the use of electric cars in use today. Next season, this electric car race will use the latest generation which is claimed to be lighter, faster, and more energy efficient.

At Race 2 E-Prix Seoul, Vandoorne started the race from fourth place and finished second which was held around the Olympic stadium of the South Korean capital to claim his first world title.

New Zealand’s Evans, who won in Race 1 the day before to narrow the gap to 21 points, finished seventh after qualifying only 13th. In Race 2, Evans still has a chance to become world champion if he can emerge as the first champion in Vandoorne and finish outside the top seven.

“It’s been incredible. An incredible season. It’s the best feeling ever … what we’ve achieved is something special,” Vandoorne said as quoted by Reuters on Sunday.

“It’s really about consistency in the end,” added the 30-year-old, who claimed the title despite winning fewer races than Evans and Edoardo Mortara.

Vandoorne has won just one Formula E race in 2022, in Monaco, with Evans and Mortara taking four wins each.
