UK transport operator Stagecoach has announced its first fully electric bus fleet and depot, to be based in Stockton-on-Tees, North East England. The facility will host a new lineup of electric vehicles, including Yutong E12 buses and Stagecoach’s first Yutong electric double-decker (DD), as the company continues efforts to decarbonise its national fleet.
While Stagecoach has previously introduced electric buses alongside conventional diesel and petrol vehicles, the Stockton depot will be the company’s first location to run an entirely electric fleet. Stagecoach has not disclosed the number of EVs to be deployed at the site but confirmed that the fleet will be comprised solely of Yutong-manufactured models.

“This announcement marks an exciting and important step on our journey to deliver a smarter, and more sustainable transport network,” said Claire Miles, CEO of Stagecoach. “Not only are we investing in quieter, zero tail pipe emission buses for our communities, but we’re also transforming our infrastructure to build a more efficient and future-ready business.”
In addition to serving public transport routes, the new electric depot will offer business-to-business (B2B) charging services through the Stagecoach Solutions platform. Local businesses will have access to the depot’s charging infrastructure during off-peak hours, a move that Stagecoach says will generate a secondary revenue stream and support the regional EV ecosystem.

“This is about more than just the vehicles,” said Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK. “It is about sustainability, about community and the partnership within this region and the innovation that Stagecoach are bringing. Looking at it on a depot basis is, to me, a blueprint that could be cascaded across the whole country.”
Stagecoach’s nationwide electrification efforts are already well underway. Over 10% of its 8,400-vehicle fleet is currently electric, and 43 of its depots are expected to be equipped with EV charging infrastructure by year-end. In recent months, Stagecoach has launched similar initiatives across the UK, including the deployment of 57 electric buses in Derbyshire and 64 EVs in Coventry, highlighting its broader strategy to transition towards a low-emission transport network.
