Solaris, the Polish bus manufacturer, has clinched a deal with EMT Madrid for the supply of 50 new electric buses, comprising 30 Urbino 12 Electric and 20 Urbino 9 LE Electric models. The delivery is set to be finalized by the end of July 2024, bolstering EMT Madrid’s commitment to an emission-free public transport fleet.
The Urbino 12 Electric is already a familiar model to the Spanish transport company, while the Urbino 9 LE Electric is making its debut on the streets of Madrid. Both models feature a driver’s cabin designed in compliance with EMT standards, offering a safe and ergonomic workspace equipped with integrated driver assistance devices. Notable amenities include a modern monitoring system that replaces traditional mirrors.

In addition to the electric buses, EMT Madrid has also enlisted Solaris’s eSConnect service to enhance the potential of its battery vehicle fleet. The system aims to improve diagnostic and service options and streamline precise route planning for individual lines, although specific details were not provided.
This order marks another collaboration between Solaris and EMT Madrid, following last year’s acquisition of over 150 electric buses. The ambitious plan aims to have over 440 electric buses in the EMT Madrid fleet by the end of 2024, with a target of 25% electric vehicles by 2025. The transport operator has expressed its commitment to achieving a completely emission-free bus fleet by 2033.

Solaris, having received an additional order from Berlin’s public transport operator BVG, continues to make strides in the electric bus market. Under a framework agreement, Solaris will manufacture and deliver Urbino 18 electric buses, with the first batch arriving in Berlin by the end of 2024. The BVG plans to deploy the remaining units in 2025, emphasizing the introduction of charging infrastructure at terminal stops throughout the city.
