GZM Metropolis, an association of municipalities in Poland’s Silesia region, has placed an order for 42 Solaris electric buses along with depot charging infrastructure. The contract includes 24 twelve-metre Urbino 12 electric and 18 eighteen-metre Urbino 18 electric models, all destined for PKM Świerklaniec.
Deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2026. This marks the second agreement between Solaris and GZM Metropolis, following a 2022 contract for 32 electric buses delivered in 2023 to operators in Katowice, Gliwice, Sosnowiec, and Świerklaniec.

The Urbino 12 and Urbino 18 electric buses are equipped with modular drives and designed without an engine tower to maximize interior space. The 12-metre version can accommodate up to 70 passengers, while the articulated model can carry as many as 120.
Each bus is powered by an electric motor drawing energy from Solaris High Energy batteries — 600 kWh in the 12-metre variant and 800 kWh in the articulated version. The vehicles will be charged via a plug-in connector with a visual system indicating charging status.
Passenger and driver safety are supported by an array of advanced systems, including a speed assistant, comprehensive camera monitoring, and a passenger counting system. Additional features include dual USB charging ports for passengers and the eSConnect fleet management system, which provides real-time telematics and predictive diagnostics.

Both models will also incorporate a preconditioning system to maintain cabin comfort during and after charging, with remote management capabilities through the eSConnect platform.
Solaris continues to strengthen its position as a European leader in zero-emission public transport, with more than 3,300 of its electric buses operating across the continent. The new Urbino electric buses for GZM Świerklaniec represent another milestone in advancing clean, quiet, and sustainable mobility within Poland’s Silesia region.
