Potential electric vehicle buyers in the UK eyeing the new all-electric Smart #1 are in for a pleasant surprise, as the automaker strategically reduces prices to better position itself against competitors like Hyundai and Jeep.

Smart has implemented a substantial price reduction of €5,800 for the upcoming Smart #1 Pro, presenting a noteworthy alternative in the competitive EV market. Priced at €36,760, this move not only brings affordability but also introduces a new nomenclature, replacing the previous Smart #1 Pro+.

The competitive pricing places the Smart #1 Pro in direct competition with models such as the Jeep Avenger and Hyundai Kona Electric, while setting its sights on potential rivals like the Kia Niro EV and MG4 SR.

Despite the significant price cut, the Smart #1 Pro maintains an impressive equipment list. The entry-level EV boasts a smaller 49 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 311 km and supporting 130 kW of fast charging. Propelled by a single electric motor powering the rear wheels with 200 kW and 342 Nm of torque, the crossover achieves a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds.

Standard features on the Smart #1 Pro include cruise control, LED headlights, heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.8” screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree parking camera system, and a powered tailgate. The inclusion of such features enhances the appeal of this entry-level EV.

The Smart #1, built on Geely’s SEA platform (shared with Volvo and Zeekr vehicles), debuted in Europe last year and has gained popularity for its design, spacious interior, and commendable performance. With the reduction in prices, Smart aims to solidify its position in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle market in the UK.
