The Skoda Group has signed a framework agreement with public transport operator Dopravní podnik Ostrava (DPO) for the delivery of up to 16 battery-powered trolleybuses to the Czech city of Ostrava. The order includes 14 confirmed units and an option for two additional vehicles, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2027.

Valued at 268 million Czech koruna (approximately 11.02 million euros), the contract covers twelve-metre-long Skoda 26Tr models equipped with traction batteries that allow at least 15 kilometres of operation on battery power in areas without overhead lines. While Skoda did not specify details of the electric drivetrain, the company emphasized the vehicles’ comfort and safety features, which include air conditioning, a camera system, and a collision monitoring unit.

“Ostrava has long been one of the most progressive cities in public transport,” said Karel Majer, CEO of Skoda Electric, noting that the 26Tr trolleybuses will enhance “flexibility, comfort, and operational efficiency.” Daniel Morys, CEO and Chairman of the Board of DPO, added that the new models are designed to ensure “maximum comfort and safety for passengers.”

DPO currently operates 75 trolleybuses, 58 of which were supplied by Skoda, including 23 of the 26Tr model, 17 of the 27Tr, and 18 of the 36Tr. These vehicles serve a twelve-line network connecting major transport hubs such as Ostrava’s main railway station, the Miloš Sýkora Bridge, and the Hranečník terminal.

The Ostrava agreement adds to a series of recent trolleybus contracts secured by Skoda in Czechia. The company has signed framework deals for up to 20 type 32Tr trolleybuses for Jihlava, eight 33Tr battery-powered articulated models for Chomutov and Jirkov, and 31 32Tr and 33Tr vehicles for Hradec Králové. Additionally, Skoda has inked an agreement to supply up to 60 trolleybuses to Zlín.

Beyond domestic contracts, Skoda has reported international success with major orders from Esslingen, Germany (58 trolleybuses) and Tallinn, Estonia (40 vehicles), underscoring the growing demand for electric public transport solutions across Europe.
