Chinese electronics company, Huawei, is reported to have signed cooperation agreements with eight world car manufacturers to license its technology. The eight manufacturers are Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Subaru, Renault, Lamborghini and Bentley.
Later Huawei technology will be present in 15 million of the total 70 million cars produced globally.
This collaboration is clearly beneficial for Huawei, considering that they are still subject to sanctions from the United States regarding the development of internal semiconductors.
In addition, these partnerships also allow Huawei to deal with foreign entities and markets, including the United States.
“We also have agreements with American companies on cross-licensing deals and export controls are not a factor at all,” said Alan Fan, global head of Huawei’s intellectual property department.
Huawei alone has signed 20 new or extended patents by 2022, covering smartphone, connected vehicles and IoT technologies. It will also expand its automotive operations with joint venture Avatr and battery manufacturer CATL.
