Shell Lubricants and Hyundai Motor Company have renewed their global partnership for another five years, extending a collaboration that began in 2005. The agreement maintains Shell as Hyundai Motor’s recommended global supplier of aftersales lubricants while expanding joint work on lubricant technologies, vehicle programmes and customer service.

The renewal is the fifth since the companies began working together and covers product development, motorsport engineering and aftersales activities.

Partnership Expands Into EV-Related Technologies

Under the renewed agreement, Shell and Hyundai will continue developing lubricant technologies for Hyundai vehicles and supporting high-performance vehicle programmes.

The companies also plan to expand cooperation in areas including next-generation e-fluids, thermal management and digital technologies.

These areas are increasingly relevant to electric vehicles, where thermal management and specialised fluids can play roles in vehicle efficiency and powertrain operation.

Shell will continue supplying Shell Helix engine oil products to Hyundai customers globally as part of the aftersales relationship.

Aftersales Cooperation to Continue

The companies will also expand service marketing programmes intended to support customer satisfaction and Hyundai’s aftersales operations in key markets.

Beom Seok Kang, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Service Sub-Division at Hyundai Motor Company, said the partnership had contributed to the company’s global aftersales service activities and customer experience.

Lee Ming Seow, Vice President, Global Key Accounts and New Business Development at Shell Lubricants, said the companies would continue working on technologies covering performance, efficiency and sustainability.

Motorsport Provides Technology Development Platform

The partnership extends beyond conventional aftersales lubricants through motorsport programmes.

Shell has sponsored the Hyundai Shell MOBIS World Rally Team since 2014. The programme provides a testing environment for lubricant technologies under demanding racing conditions, with development experience feeding into products for Hyundai customers.

Shell and Hyundai have also collaborated with the Hyundai N division on lubricants for high-performance engines and electric vehicles.

Collaboration Extends to Genesis

Shell’s relationship with Hyundai Motor Group also includes its Genesis luxury brand.

Shell recently expanded its collaboration with Genesis and will serve as the Performance and Innovation Partner to Genesis Magma Racing during its 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship debut.

The companies said the renewed Hyundai partnership will continue to cover lubricant technology, aftersales services and future mobility applications as the automotive industry evolves.

The five-year agreement extends a relationship that has now lasted more than two decades, while broadening its focus toward technologies associated with electrification and next-generation vehicles.
