Shangjie, the automotive brand jointly developed by Huawei and SAIC Motor, has released new images of its upcoming Z7 sedan, offering a clearer look at the model’s exterior design as the brand prepares to expand its lineup.

Images shared by Shangjie on social media platform Weibo on Tuesday show the Z7 with a coupe-like body profile. The front-end design closely follows the styling language introduced with the brand’s first model, the H5 sport utility vehicle, while the roof-mounted lidar sensor signals support for advanced driver assistance features. The rear light clusters resemble those used on other higher-end vehicles under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA).

Shangjie first teased the outline of the Z7 in a poster released on Jan. 7, the same day Xiaomi’s electric vehicle unit opened pre-sales for an updated version of its SU7 sedan. The brand has indicated that the Z7 “will compete with the updated Xiaomi SU7,” marking the first direct rivalry between Huawei-backed and Xiaomi-backed models in China’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.

Shangjie is the fifth automotive brand under Huawei’s HIMA umbrella, joining Seres Group’s Aito, Chery’s Luxeed, BAIC Group’s Stelato and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group’s Maextro. Huawei provides core technologies including intelligent driving systems and in-car software, while partner automakers handle vehicle manufacturing.

The brand entered the market on Sept. 23, 2025, with the launch of the Shangjie H5, priced from 159,800 yuan ($22,910), making it the most affordable vehicle under the HIMA business. The mid-size SUV measures 4,780 mm in length with a 2,840 mm wheelbase. On Dec. 9, Shangjie said cumulative deliveries of the H5 had reached 20,000 units just 78 days after launch.

SAIC Motor Chairman Wang Xiaoqiu said in December that Shangjie plans to introduce at least two new models by 2026, signalling a faster rollout as the brand seeks to establish itself in China’s competitive electric vehicle sector.
