Servotech Renewable has announced plans to establish India’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging hub dedicated to airside operations, to be located at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru. The project, commissioned by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), aims to support the airport’s growing fleet of electric vehicles and marks a milestone in decarbonising ground operations.
Under the agreement, Servotech Renewable will supply, install, test, and commission the EV charging infrastructure, as well as provide maintenance for five years. The contract includes ten 240 kW ultra-fast DC chargers—totaling a combined output of 2.4 MW—to support high-capacity electric buses used to transport passengers between terminals and aircraft.
“This project is more than just an infrastructure milestone, it’s a step toward transforming urban transport at one of India’s busiest airports allowing us to electrify the airport and play a vital role in reducing its carbon emissions with our advanced EV charging technology and infrastructure,” said Sarika Bhatia, Director at Servotech Renewable.
BIAL, which owns and operates the airport, is investing ₹16.2 million (approximately €160,000) in the project, and expects the new charging facility to be operational within 75 days, likely by the end of September. The hub will be located strategically within the airport’s premises to facilitate efficient charging for the airside EV fleet.
The move comes amid increasing momentum for EV infrastructure in Bengaluru, one of India’s leading cities for electric mobility adoption. Just days prior, Charge Zone inaugurated the country’s largest public EV charging hub in the city, capable of simultaneously serving more than 200 vehicles.
With this latest initiative, Servotech Renewable strengthens its presence in India’s fast-growing EV infrastructure sector while contributing to sustainability goals in the aviation industry.
