Amperfied GmbH, a subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, has secured a contract to manage the charging infrastructure for SAP’s electric vehicle (EV) fleet in Germany, marking a significant step in the software company’s sustainability strategy.
The transition will commence in the second quarter of 2025 with the migration of 1,720 existing SAP charging stations to Amperfied’s cloud backend. The system will support charging hardware from various manufacturers, and an expansion to approximately 3,700 charging points is planned. It remains unclear whether Amperfied-branded charging stations will be prioritized in the expansion.

The agreement covers backend management of charging stations, distribution of access media such as charging cards and an app for around 6,500 SAP employees with electric and hybrid vehicles. It also includes reporting, technical support, maintenance, and fraud prevention measures. Heidelberger Druck stated that the cloud-based platform would enable “intelligent charge point and process management.”
The cooperation aligns with Amperfied’s strategic shift towards offering e-mobility services for business customers. While initially focusing on private customers due to government incentives for home charging stations, the company is now emphasizing fleet solutions for corporate clients. The new services include a cloud-based backend with integrated billing, maintenance services, and a rental model for charging infrastructure.

SAP, which has set a target of converting its 19,000-vehicle fleet to electric by 2030, is steadily advancing its electrification efforts. The company initially planned to exclusively order electric company cars from January 2025 but has postponed the requirement to 2026. Starting in April 2025, however, SAP employees will be restricted to selecting electric vehicles. Currently, SAP’s fleet includes around 4,800 fully electric cars and 4,400 hybrids, with further infrastructure expansions planned to accommodate the growing number of EVs.
“Converting our vehicle fleet is a cornerstone of our sustainability goals, which include electrifying the entire fleet by 2030,” said Steffen Krautwasser, Global Head of Car Fleet at SAP. “In Amperfied, we have found an experienced and local partner who will help us ensure that the charging infrastructure keeps pace with the growing number of electric cars in our fleet.”
