Saietta to Supply 3,000 Electric Drive Systems to Ayro for Customized Low-Speed Electric Vehicles

British electric drive specialist, Saietta, has announced that it will be supplying 3,000 of its electric drive systems to Ayro, a US manufacturer of low-speed electric vehicles. The powertrains will be used in Ayro’s new Vanish model, which is expected to go into production later this year. According to Saietta, the modular design of its electric drive system will allow for customised solutions to be delivered quickly and cost-effectively.

Saietta’s electric drive system is designed to provide high torque, high power and high efficiency at low voltage and speed for urban applications. The company’s first commercial electric motor, the AFT140i, houses a fully integrated control unit and cooling system in its housing, which is coupled to a specially designed transmission. Saietta usually designs its solutions around its proven axial flow motor (AFT).

The Vanish is a vehicle for “campus mobility, last-mile delivery and micro-distribution”, according to Saietta. The British company says that after 12 months of “close cooperation”, it has developed a system tailored to Ayro’s requirements. The company specialises in electric drive solutions for light vehicles, such as scooters, motorbikes, rickshaws and urban delivery vehicles, and also refers to “lightweight mobility”.

Saietta is currently expanding its operations. Last year, the company acquired Dutch firm e-Traction Europe from the Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group. In 2022, Saietta also purchased a former ZF plant in Sunderland, England. The British electric drive specialist has also presented a fully integrated electric axle drive for light commercial vehicles with up to two tonnes of gross vehicle weight at the IAA Transportation 2022.

“Electric drive solutions are becoming increasingly important as more cities and countries seek to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality,” said a spokesperson for Saietta. “We are delighted to be working with Ayro to provide customised solutions for its new Vanish model. Our modular design means that we can deliver cost-effective solutions that meet the specific needs of our customers.
